Smelter Tour - Hosted and Sponsored by NZAS

As part of the 12th AASTC, a smelter tour to New Zealand's Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) is scheduled for Wednesday, 5th December 2018. NZAS is New Zealand's only aluminium smelter and is located on Tiwai Peninsula, across the harbour from Bluff in Southland. It produces a wide range of value added products, including specialty billets, high purity ingots, and foundry alloys that are cast from low carbon aluminium. NZAS is a responsible supplier producing consistently high quality products with one of the lowest CO2 footprints in the world.

Visitors will be split into two groups and will travel to NZAS on two buses. Current plan is for:

  • Bus 1 will leave Millennium Hotel at 8.00 am and will stop by Transport World on the way to NZAS.

  • Bus 2 will leave Millennium Hotel at 8.30 am for NZAS. It will stop by Transport World on the way back to Queenstown

After drive around the site by bus, lunch and general NZAS overview presentation, participants will be able to select one production area for 'deep dive' tours. The choices are:

  • Reduction

  • Carbon

  • Casthouse
